Ellen Announces Plans to Marry Portia

Within hours of Thursday's California Supreme Court decision to overturn the ban on marriage, Emmy winner Ellen DeGeneres taped an episode of her talk show, which aired today, where she announced she would wed longtime partner Portia de Rossi. Ellen and Portia, who was in the audience, have put a very public face on an issue that so many have fought so long to achieve. They are to be commended for showing the world that gay couples deserve to have the same legal rights, responsibilities and respect given to all married couples.
