The Road to California Marriage

Marriage begins Tuesday in California!

As the communications arm of the LGBT movement, GLAAD is proud to be part of the Equality for All coalition, making sure media is telling the important story of this historic moment in our quest for equality. GLAAD is working with the coalition across the state to identify couples who are interested in publicly sharing their love and commitment with the world in an effort to change hearts and minds.

I have had the pleasure of personally working with actor George Takei and his longtime partner Brad Altman the past week as they head for the altar Sept. 14. This Tuesday, George and Brad will join with hundreds of other couples in West Hollywood Park who will line up to receive their marriage license. The couple have been together for over 21 years and have long been proponents in the fight for marriage, so this comes as a sweet victory.

We are grateful that George and Brad are putting a public face on marriage, and are so willing to share their story during the coming days with millions. On Friday, George appeared on the local ABC affiliate, and beginning Monday the couple will be live on CNN and CBS, among others. Check back here for more updates, tune in alerts, and clips of our whirlwind press tour with George and Brad!
